Doctor of Biotechnology, Multiple Award Winning Author, Empowerment Architect, Educator, Mental Health Advocate, Speaker
I am Dr. Karla Hylton, a dedicated educator with a PhD in Biotechnology, blending my scientific expertise with a deep commitment to fostering holistic development in others. My background in biotechnology provides me with a unique understanding of the intricate connections between mind and body, which I apply to help those struggling with mental health challenges.
In addition to my extensive teaching experience, I hold a Postgraduate degree in Education and a certification in Mental Health Studies. These qualifications empower me to approach mental health with both scientific rigor and compassionate care, offering practical strategies rooted in both evidence and empathy.
My journey has also led me to write The Unvarnished Truth: Purpose in Pain, an autobiographical work that reflects my personal experiences with overcoming adversity. This book, along with my companion workbook Vanquishing Monsters, serves as a testament to the power of resilience and healing.
Above all, I am passionate about using my knowledge and experience to guide others toward success and well-being. I am the proud mother of two remarkable adult children.
Have you ever felt so utterly lost and overwhelmed by despair that you considered ending your own life? I have been in that dark place too, but I found my way through, and so can you.Through heartache and despair, there is always hope. "I am masterpiece painted by the Divine artist."
The 'Vanquishing Monsters' workbook is the award-winning transformative companion to
'The Unvarnished Truth: Purpose in the Pain' offering a structured and introspective journey through the themes of the memoir. Designed to encourage
self-reflection, empowerment, and healing, this workbook provides readers with practical exercises and prompts to navigate their own personal narratives,
fostering a path toward resilience and purpose in the face of life's challenges.
Empowerment has always been at the heart of my journey. After a brief stint in research, I found my true calling in education and dedicated myself to teaching. I began lecturing at a local university, and in 2012, I founded my private tutoring business, which quickly grew as my students achieved national and Caribbean-wide recognition.
In 2022, I rebranded my business as "Your Empowerment Solutions (YES) Institute," with a mission to holistically develop students by nurturing not only their academic abilities but also their leadership skills and personal growth. As an Empowerment Specialist, my work goes beyond education. Through life empowerment architecture and suicidal ideation recovery guidance, I draw from personal experiences and my extensive work with both youth and adults to empower individuals to overcome challenges and thrive.
Alongside my educational and empowerment work, I have authored twelve books and write as a Career and Education columnist for the Jamaica Observer. My commitment to service extends beyond the classroom, as I have served as the former Chairman of the Friends of the Bustamante Hospital for Children in Jamaica and currently serve on the Board of the Jamaica Museum and Cultural Centre in Atlanta.
My journey has been filled with twists and turns, joys and sorrows. My greatest joy continues to be working with and helping young people achieve their full potential.
